Prince, the solitary genius who passed away suddenly at the age of 57 on April 21, 2016, remains deeply mourned and continues to exert a profound influence on artists and music fans around the world.
This release marks the first-ever analog vinyl edition of Hit & Run Phase Two (original title: HITnRUN Phase Two), Prince’s 39th album and the final album released during his lifetime.

The album was issued just three months after his 38th album, Hit & Run Phase One, which came out in September of the same year. While Phase One was crafted under the direction of the young collaborator Joshua Welton, Phase Two was created with The New Power Generation and is a full-force Prince statement rooted in classic soul and funk traditions.

The opening track, “Baltimore,” was recorded as a tribute and protest following the death of Freddie Gray, an African American man who died after being assaulted by police during transport in Baltimore, Maryland, in April of that year. Prince once said in 2015, “‘HITnRUN’ sounds like today,” and even a decade after its release, those words still hold true—the series has not faded with time, transcending eras and continuing to be passed on into the future.
